We're Back

After a two-year hiatus due to construction, we will again be providing concessions for TCC's Drama Department's annual outdoor production, 20-24 June.  Typically, we set up about 5:30 PM and leave after intermission around 9:30 PM.  Come on out to help and see a great play.

Reading is Fundamental

Our 2 Mar visit to Broadlawn HeadStart pulled together several of our partners to help this pre-school.  The REACH (Reading Enriches All Children) Foundation provided 40 high quality books.  Readers from CHIP SHR (Childrens Health Investment Progran, South Hampton Roads), the Virginia State Police Association, and Great Bridge Kiwanis entertained the kids.  Above, the CHIP SHR mascot, Chipper the Duck and Kiwanian Beth Alexander look on as State Police Sergeant Michelle Anaya reads Dogs Underwater. Sergeant Anaya gets the kids excited about the book.  Chipper and her escort Sherri Klym, CHIP's Director of Development, lead the kids in a spirited duck dance. Finally Chipper and Kiwanis President Elizabeth Griffing help each child select two books to take home. This is what Kiwanis is all about.

State Police Partnership

Continuing our partnership with the State Police Association, Sgt Michelle Anaya, the Public Information Officer for this area, received our annual contribution to by the bears for Trooper Teddy to distribute at CHKD.  In the past, the event  was held on Valentines Day but the last few years, flu precautions have grealt reduced interactions with the patients.  This year, the event will be in May or June, after flu season so the kids can actually interact with Trooper Teddy.  Michelle will also be joining us on 2 Mar to read to the kids at Broadlawn Headstart.  The books we will read are in the background.

Chili Cookoff

The quarterly meeting of the Division 14 Council featured a chili cookoff.  We had two entries - Jim Chellew's spicy Korean chili and Joe Trombino's white chicken chili. Unfortunately, neither garnered enough votes to take the prize.
